This is one of my all time favorite comedy photos I’ve ever been a part of from a show last weekend. We look like we know where the good drugs are.
Random thought of the week:
I’m planning a big comedy show for my 40th birthday on December 14th and there’s a good chance I’ll use this space of the newsletter to shamelessly plug it over the next few weeks. It’s gonna be awesome. I’m doing 40 minutes for 40 years. I’m very excited and I’ve booked a fun line up that I’d pay money to go see, but it’s gonna be free! We’re gonna have a keg. That won’t be free but it’s $10 for a cup and you get to drink all you want or till supplies run out, whichever comes first. I’m hopefully going to record my set for posterity and I’m trying to get a karaoke DJ for right after the show. Hey, if you’re a karaoke DJ, holla at me.
So yea, if you’re a subscriber, you should consider coming to this. It’d mean a lot to me. I’ll be doling out free hugs to all newsletter subscribers that night. How rad is that?
Movie(s) I recently watched:
I didn’t watch any movies this week. I must be busy or not managing my time properly or plug any other excuse in this space here (____________).
Documentary I recently watched:
I did watch a documentary though.
Echo in the Canyon
It’s a documentary about Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles and the music scene there in the 60’s. A lot of influential musicians in this one area of LA made a lot of contributions to rock and all music in general, the Byrds and the Beach Boys the biggest among them.
Jacob Dylan hosts. He shows he has 10 times the charisma of his dad which still isn’t a whole lot of charisma, but he’s pretty good. There’s a lot of good interviews with musicians from that time and also a whole lot of Tom Petty which is a surefire way to win me over. It intersects with clips of a star-studded concert Jacob Dylan organized covering tunes from that era and teams up with performers likes of Fiona Apple, Beck, and Cat Power.
It’s fun and informative and there’s even a couple mic drop moments. I walked away with a deeper appreciation for the Byrds. I don’t think I gave them enough credit for their influence on rock and pop music.
TV shows I’m currently watching:
South Park
South Park drops Tegridy Farms for the week and delves into the topics of transgender athletes, sexual prejudice, and board games. It’s a pretty wild ride.
King of the Hill
I recently started binging King of the Hill and so far, it’s pretty good. Willie Nelson is a guest character in like the 2nd or 3rd episode. That’s a pretty epic guest to land so early in your run. After binging the likes of Frasier Crane and Bojack Horseman, Hank Hill is kinda refreshing as a character. He has a strong moral compass and even when it’s sometimes pointed in the wrong direction, he’s usually receptive to learning and growing.
Book I’m currently reading:
Assorted: A Short Story Collection
Almost finished with it. It’s got a wide range of stuff in it so you never feel like you’re stuck or bored of a certain style or subject. Like I’ve said previously, three of my friends contributed to this book and I’m gonna post the link so if you’re interested, you can support them too by purchasing it. Thanks, pals!

Album(s) of the week:
Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders / Get the Money
If Dave Grohl wasn’t already in the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins would be the Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. He’s constantly working on side projects while being the drummer for the Foo Fighters and it’s sorta incredible.
He’s also super talented. I’ve seen Foo live twice now, and both times him and Dave switched places and Taylor would play guitar and sing and it’d always be a fun part of the show.
So anyways, this album, it’s good. It’s a fun addition to the lexicon of Gen X rock and roll in the year 2019. I don’t think these songs will capture the spirit of the kids these days, but it’ll connect with aging rockers like myself who grew up on grunge and MTV’s 120 Minutes.
It’s also star studded. Here’s some of the guest appearances on this album: Dave Grohl, Jon Davison, Duff McKagan, Nancy Wilson, Perry Farrell, Joe Walsh, Chrissie Hynde, LeAnn Rimes, Roger Taylor, Pat Smear…. and I think there’s more. I guess Taylor must be a swell dude to be able to attract all this star power.
Random sports thought of the week:
The Raiders are playing the Jets this Sunday at Metlife Stadium and I sorta wanna go but I don’t have tickets yet. For those that don’t know, I used to root for the Jets but I stopped because they kept making bad decisions and it felt like they were purposely trying to break my heart and had no respect for the fans. So I started rooting for the Raiders who’ve been ugly too, but are actually not doing so bad this season and are in the run for a playoff spot. Old team vs. new team. It’s sorta like old girlfriend meets new girlfriend. Awkward. Either way, whether I go or don’t, GO RAIDERS!
also, my fantasy football team won a game for a change. My record is now 4-7 and I moved from 11th to 10th place is a 12 team league and although I’m pretty certain playoffs are out of the question, it could be fun to maybe win a couple more and play spoiler.
Random pro wrestling thought of the week:
Survivor Series is this Sunday and I’m pretty excited about it. It should be a fun ppv. There’s also NXT War Games the night before which might be the better event of the weekend to be honest, but who knows, we’ll see. It’ll be interesting to see what AEW does tonight. With Survivor Series weekend upon us, and the buzz of CM Punk working for a WWE based show, it feels like WWE owns this week and it’d be fun to see AEW dig deep to try and steal some of the shine.
